Week 5: 10/06 thru 10/13/11

After 5 Weeks on the SCD Diet…

(Sorry for mentioning this to all you dudes out there) but I got my period this week, for the first time in months.  My body was too weak to get it before.  Some cramping resulted in the beginning in the week, but by mid-week, I felt like a million bucks.  Didn’t do a lot of yoga because of the discomfort, but I walked a whole heck of a lot. :0)

Feelin good for week 5.  Plus my sedimentation rate / inflammation is now officially at a normal level.  How cool is that?  From 60 to 13 in 5 weeks.  Not too freakin’ shabby for 5 weeks.

Sister’s wedding is tomorrow.  I’m stoked that I’m healthy and can enjoy it, seeing as where I was a month ago.

Ah, just realized that I needed to click through to get to most recent posts. Well, everything I said still applies. You are doing so well, isn’t it fantastic?!!??!!

CONGRATS!! BTW, I had the hump and the facial hair and the moon face and the weight gain and the depression and insomnia and loss of sex drive – UGH. Reading your symptoms brings back the memories. Horrible. Glad you are passing out of it.

Also, I am still on Asacol (2700 mg/day, three pills once in the morning, down from nine a day) and 50 mg of mercaptopurine (6MP) per day. The 6MP was really helpful for me. So, still on meds, but feeling great. I used to be on more meds pre-SCD and felt horrible and was getting worse.

Later. Gotta go get ready to go to the gym!

Well I just got week 6 results back and my inflammation is up quite a bit, meaning I’m going through a hiccup in SCD. Still trying to figure it out- Doc says that my stressful week (sister’s wedding and best friend’s dad’s liver transplant) could’ve been a factor, or the fact that I tapered off the low dosages of prednisone way too fast (I went from 15 to 10- instead of a 5 mg lowering for the week, I should’ve gone 2.5 mgs down per week). So now I’m back at 20 mgs prednisone, which is still considered a low dose. Side effects very minimal, but the bad thing about the drug that it rocks your world physically, as opposed to the immunosuppressants, which work against you internally without the side effects.
